Lager Rhythms, a Houston-based a cappella group of varying heights, performs an eclectic mix of classic and modern songs, from folk to rock to the weird and wonderful world of nerd-pop. (It’s a term we just made up, but if you’re reading this, you probably know what we mean.)
The group was founded in 1994 by five friends who knew each other partly from math and computer classes but mostly from tending bar at Valhalla, the graduate student pub at Rice University. Over the past twenty years we have grown in popularity as well as humility, while our audience has become more attractive and intelligent. (We are also not above a little blatant flattery.) Lager Rhythms has performed at a wide range of venues from street corners to the Wortham Theater Center. We do clean up pretty nice when necessary. Luckily, Houston decency laws mean it is usually necessary.
